| Personal History | Sykon was born on Vulcan in 2100. He was the second child of Stanac, a Major in the Vulcan Fleet and T’Elka an architect. He has one sibling, an elder sister, T’Shala, who is a diplomat. The family home was in the S’Lara Region. With highly educated parents and a father who was a respected member of the Vulcan military it was only natural that Stenn would be channeled into a service career from an early age. Further back, in Vulcan’s more passionate and violent past his ancestors were members of prominent warrior clans before accepting the calm of logic and reason. 2104 At the age of four he began his formal education in a Vulcan Learning Center. Alongside a formal education Stenn’s father ensured that from a young age he and his sister were taught the ancient Vulcan combat skills and traditions with a Master of the defensive martial arts. 2118 In his eighteenth year he undertook the Kahs-Wan, a rite of passage for young Vulcans, surviving ten days alone in the wild desert. 2117 Returning to the Vulcan Learning Center he continued his education with advanced studies. 2130 A deeply traditional family, on graduation Steen was sent to the RetKhaul Monastery, in the foot-hills of the volcano Mount Tar’Hana. Under the tutelage of a Master and the Monks he learned to hone his mental discipline, embrace logical thinking and to seek mastery of his emotions. 2132 Now fully prepared mentally and physically Stenn undertook the Rite of Tal’oth, surviving with little more than a primitive knife for some four months on the brutally hot and arid plains of Vulcan’s Anvil. This trial made the earlier ten days of Kahs-Wan seem like a short stroll on a summer afternoon. Many young Vulcans failed the Kahs-Wan on their first attempt, though serious injury or death was rare. The same could not be said of the Tal’oth, injury, misadventure and death were constant companions. Only the strong and dedicated survived the full four months, many having to make multiple attempts before succeeding. Steen suffered greatly but managed to live through the ordeal. 2133 Further following his family’s tradition Stenn enrolled in the Vulcan Institute for Defensive Arts. For four years he undertook studies in ancient and modern weaponry, military studies, physical and mental training. He became highly proficient in archery with the Vulcan Longbow and swordsmanship with the Vulcan great-sword. He continued his training in Suus Mahna and Sha’mura. It was during this period that a family crisis occurred. Stenn’s sister older sister T’Shala, rejected the traditional and orthodox Vulcan lifestyle. Instead joining a group of dissidents under the leadership of a Vulcan called Syrran, who believed society had strayed from the path of logic and peace, becoming overly militaristic and dictatorial, contrary to Surak’s teachings. In a family strong in the history and traditions of armed service such a move created a rift between S’Shala and their parents and they refused to speak to each other. Stenn was sympathetic to his sister and maintained contact with her but initially felt her to be somewhat misguided. During the next few years he came to appreciate some of T’Shala beliefs, and attended a few meetings of the group seeking to understand further but remained unconvinced that they could really bring about such a deep change to Vulcan Society. 2337 Having finally completed his education Stenn joined the Vulcan Fleet and began his three years of training, specializing in security and combat. 2140 His first assignment was as a Junior Officer abord the D’Vohl Type T’Pral, the ship was a system patrol vessel for Vulcan. 2142 Promotion to Sublieutenant and his first experience of deep space came aboard the Maymora Type Cruiser Selita an escort vessel for the Vulcan Merchant Fleet. 2146 Stenn was transferred as a Sublieutenant in the Security Directorate staff at the Vulcan Embassy on Earth. It was his first extended contact with Human’s; he found them emotional, loud, uncoordinated and disruptive to his sense of calm and harmony. They also smelt quite bad. Over the months though he slowly began to notice some admirable qualities, it was still hard to overcome the smell though. 2148 Back in the Vulcan Fleet Stenn was assigned as a Subaltern abord the D’Kyr Type Combat Cruiser Tek’Jar The ship was assigned to various patrol and security duties along the borders of Vulcan space. In 2151 he was interrogated as part of a High Command investigation into the Syrrannites due to his sister’s membership of the group. He was exonerated of any involvement but came to notice that his personal communications with his family were occasionally monitored. T’Shala had by now dropped from sight and he had no contact with her for the next three years. After the explosion at the United Earth Embassy he was again interrogated, during which he strongly protested his sister and her associates’ innocence, knowing that much of their beliefs were based on pacifism. He was warned in no uncertain terms that the High Command was of the opposite opinion and continued defense of the Syrrranites would end his career. Fortunately, within weeks the treasonous activities of V’Las and others was discovered, the High Command was removed from power. T’Pau and Kuvak formed an interim government, and the Vulcan Reformation began. Later in 2154 the Tek’Jar was involved in the Babel Crisis and cooperated with Earth, Andorian and Tellerite ships to counter the Romulan Drone attacks. Stenn spent some time abord a Andorian vessel as part of a joint liaison operation to improve coordination between the various fleets. 2155 Due to his sister’s previous association with the Syrannites, T’Shala was given a diplomat post under the interim government of T’Pau and Kuvak, which promoted more open cooperation with Earth and other friendly species, T’Shala was assigned to the Vulcan embassy on Earth. After some weeks Stenn was offered the opportunity of another assignment, a transfer, from Vulcan to Human service,this time to the Military Assault Command Operation. Stenn was at first unwilling to accept the transfer but was eventually persuaded by his sister, he would be part of a group of Vulcans joining the Human space fleet to aid and assist them in closer cooperation with Vulcans and other species. This he entered the Military Assault Command Operations Training program. Due to his prior Liaison Assignment status, rank, previous training and experience he completed a two year course. Including basic infantry and small unit tactics at Atlanta; where he also acquired a taste for Earth Southern cooking; Zero Gravity and EV Suit training at Jupiter Station and Janus Loop; Survival, Escape and Evasion on Luna and finally he graduated and was commission as Captain from West Point. Before taking up his first post he returned to Vulcan for a short period of shore leave and was able to begin healing the rift between T’Shala and their parents. While their father remained distant from his daughter, the two at least agreed to begin speaking and communicating again. 2155 Following his return from Vulcan Stenn was assigned as MACO Detachment Executive Officer, under Major King, aboard the NX-05 Atlantis |
