Personality & Traits
General Overview | In many ways, Raya is exactly what you'd expect of a child born into military life. Disciplined, driven, ambitious, controlled. It is, however, a veneer, behaviour learned through sheer necessity rather than any natural compulsion. Stripped of this, reduced to relying on her own guile and wit, Raya is passionate, tempestuous and chaotic, at least by definitions that drive her family's vision, and sees value and strength in the risk of uncertainty rather than strict adherence to the status quo. Raya longs to dig her hands into the confusion of the unknown, her pioneer's heart in direct opposition to her father's unquenchable thirst for moderation. This clash of priorities provokes disappointment, whilst the stringent demands of her upbringing occasionally render her rigid and uncompromising enough to forge a barrier between herself and her colleagues. It is in this way, trapped as an imperfect specimen in both worlds, that Raya isolates herself and embraces her reputation as an aloof and solitary figure. She has become so accustomed to being misunderstood that she barely even questions it anymore. Experience has taught her to be wary and, as such, it is possible that people never see beyond the privilege of her upbringing and the perception of advantage. Raya's service record, however, speaks of a talented and resourceful officer, a courageous pilot and woman whose greatest accolades lie amongst the hundreds of unrewarded actions that are barely attributed to her in any official capacity. Whatever the universe thinks of her, Raya clearly does not hold it in equal disdain. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | + Military-trained university graduate with a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering + Skilled and experienced combat pilot + Probably shot some people who deserved it + Can be disciplined and controlled and everything you could possibly want from a good soldier - Significant Daddy issues - Is actually secretly a maelstrom of ambition and passion, particularly for new innovations and embracing change - Didn't actually like her husband much - Lacks authenticity due to familial expectations and a degree of unwillingness to completely detach her branch from the family tree +/- Strong family ties to Starfleet's Diplomatic Corps, which is a blessing or a curse depending on how you want to view it +/- Loves fiercely, wants to do right by everyone, is her own harshest critic and is generally overwhelmed by failing to be everything everyone expects her to be. Manages to remain a decent human being despite having zero clue which identity she actually wants to prioritise. |
|
Ambitions | Her family's: To be an officer that upholds the family's expectations, to serve dutifully and advance Starfleet's vision without getting carried away by her own ideas. Hers: To 100% get carried away by her own ideas, but not get kicked out of the family. |
|
Hobbies & Interests | To those who understandably take no time to look closely, Raya is a woman obsessed by her career. Meanwhile, she loves cooking, sewing and plays the bansuri. |
