Personal History | Early Life Owen Nargle was born in the small town of Winona, Minnesota in the North American Continent. His father, Hank Nargle, was the local post master and his mother, Jennifer Nargle, was a teacher in the local school. He was an only child, but had plenty of friends. An accident when he was still quite young damaged his voice box and made it so that he would never be able to speak in above a whisper again. Yet he was happy, healthy, and social. From a young age he loved to be creative, seeking any outlet for his creativity. School At school Owen had troubles. He was not the most focused of students, often getting bored and impatient with his studies. The results were a number of trips to the administrator's offices to get stern talkings to. Yet when it came to things like art and cooking, he excelled, though very often broke the very rules he was meant to follow. He liked to try new things and new combinations, often making unexpectedly amazing meals or artistically fascinating paintings. He would graduate high school toward the bottom of his class which gave him fewer options for college, but as the ivy league schools held no interest for him, he instead went to a smaller community college. College In college he would begin his focus in the culinary arts. Though he would eventually get a 4 year degree in the Culinary Arts, it was not without it's challenges. His soft spoken nature led many to believe he could be pushed around and while this had not been a problem in school previously, the competitive nature of his college classes made it much harder on him. However this is also where he would show his natural skills and keen sense of taste. He would do quite well here, much to his classmates shock, yet he was also constantly helping and supporting those around him, so that even if they hated him for his skills, they could never hate the gentle person he was. Family Life After college he set about working at a number of small local eateries, learning the unique cooking styles and dishes from all over the world. It was easy enough for him to travel and he would stay no one place for very long, that was at least until he met the love of his life, Charlene McMillian, who he would later make Charlene Nargle. He adored her and did his best to show it every day. They would have two children together and settle in the small town of Hansen, Iowa. There he would open up a small diner and serve traditional dishes with his own unique flare. And he was happy... At least until the diagnosis. His wife had Simploi Syndrome, a recently discovered condition that was unfortunately quite fatal. In an instant his world fell apart and he would spend the next few years in doctor's offices. In the end they chose to not fight it and she died only a few short weeks later. And with his children grown and now living their own lives, he decided to start to travel again, only this time he wouldn't travel the Earth, he wanted to see the stars. Starfleet Owen Nargle joined Starfleet as a civilian chef shortly after seeing an advert looking for chefs for the long range ships being constructed. It was a simple enough training program and with his impressive resume, Starfleet was more than happy to have him. Within A month of signing up to join, he was in space learning how to cook dishes from Vulcan and even Andor. And when he passed his exams he was given the green light to pick a ship, he chose the larger NX class and waited for news of his final assignment. Which is how, a year to the day he lost his wife, he began a new life aboard the NX-05 Atlantis. |
