Ensign Livingston had requested a reassignment to the late shift, and it was granted. This way he had some bridge time at the helm. It felt go to actually do something constructive for a change.
Doctor Maryln Barick worked mostly in the science lab, helping the science officers where she could. She wshe wasn't assigned to the lab, she volunteered her time in an effort to help.
Occasionally the bridge sensors would pick up a comet nearby, or a moon that seemed to have left it's orbit. So while the science officer scanned the objects, Livingston plotted courses near and around them, giving the others the best opportunity to do a full and complete scan.
When Ben wasn't on the bridge, he would be working on the shuttle pods in the hanger bay, keeping them working properly, in the event they were needed.
With Ben's new schedule, he and Maryln spent little time together. They would share meals, usually the daily rations. They slept together, not knowing if the rest of the crew knew, they tried to keep their relationship a secret.
Maryln was in love with Ben. She didn't say it to him, but she thought that he felt the same way.
Sometimes the ship would go through alert training, with everyone going to their battle stations. If Ben was at the helm, he would make way for the senior helmsman to take over, and he would stay at the back of the bridge, usually monitoring the sensors.
Was it an ideal time and place for them to fall in love? No, but they didn't care as long as they had each other.
Ensign Ben Livingston
