Whilst the majority of the ship slept Darru did not. The Vulcan needed less sleep and found that if he had more than four hours it left him unfocused and needing more reflection and contemplation time, it served no one especially his science. He looked over the scans of the planets they passed as they tried to make some progress with the Vrav following them at a bigger intensity than before.
The planet he was currently looking at was made up of 3 continents, which made up about 57% of the planet's landmass. 3 moons orbited the planet and the planet itself orbited a red sun in a fairly circular orbit. It was another planet that would not support the Vrav or the algae. He frowned as an alarm suddenly made him jump and look at the nearest screen. “Intruder alert?” He actually said allowed as the door opened.
Normally Maddison would be sleeping at 0300 but she was currently dressed in a grey tank top and blue Starfleet-issued PT shorts as she ran down the corridor, having decided to get in an early morning workout before her shift. The intruder alert alarm caused her to jump as she looked immediately behind her, slowing to a walk while listening for any strange noises. She had to get to the ship's Armory and get a phase pistol. "Shit," she cursed as turned back and made her way down the corridor before the hiss of a door opening caught her attention and she pressed herself against the port bulkhead--the same side the door was on and began to move swiftly towards it. Then the shape of a Vulcan male appeared, causing her to stop in her tracks while letting out a sigh of relief. "I take it you're not the intruder," she called out, pushing away from the bulkhead.
"I am not the intruder that has ventured onboard today no." The Vulcan said with an aloof attitude as the woman came in view better and he was able to see her as one of the armoury non-commissioned crewmen. "What is your duty station in an intruder alert?" He requested thinking he had none designating other than staying in the lab or quarters.
"Seeing as the tactical station on the bridge is occupied, my duty station is wherever the intruders are but I need a weapon first since I'm currently off duty so I'm headed for the Armory," she gestured to her outfit. You should stay in your lab and lock the door until we deal with the intruders," she suggested, as she looked past the Vulcan and then back the way she had come.
"I am part of the 'we'." Darru commented as he looked at the way she came. "Two people have a better chance of getting you where you need to." He pointed out taking off his jacket placing back on the console. He was going to go with her one way or another, he knew they all thought Vulcan's were not fighters but they were trained like the other officers for events such as this.
"I've learned long ago to not to try to argue with a Vulcan. Fine, come along, lieutenant," she said as she moved past him as she finally placed the Vulcan's face and name. However, she was secretly relying on the lieutenant's superior senses to hopefully detect the enemy before they could detect them--if they were on this deck at all.
One human at the very least knew not to underestimate his species which was a refreshing change. There might be some more hope for them and the continued relations they were building after all. It was mere moments into there quest to get to the armoury locker that they saw the first Vrav coming towards them. "How do you wont to approach this?" He muttered as the creature got closer and closer.
Maddison was surprised to see a single Vrav. Being alone on an enemy ship was a tactical mistake no matter what species you were--one she was happy to exploit. "Cowboy diplomacy," she smiled, looking back at the Vulcan. "Be ready and I'll draw him to us." Maddison stepped out into the corridor in full view. "Hey, Jackass!"
She turned and ducked back down the side corridor as the Vrav raised its weapon at Maddison. As the alien disappeared quickly, he rushed after his prey.
Darru did not hesitate as the being rushed passed him he grabbed it by his shoulder and twisted. The being fell to the floor instantly allowing the pair to take its weapon. "I believe that is your weapon now Warrant Officer," Darru commented holding it out to the woman. It was useless in his hands but the woman could make use of it he was sure.
"Thank you." Maddison took the weapon and held it to the being. "Try anything and I blow your head off," she threatened. "Now get up and walk," she motioned with the weapon as the being slowly got up.
The Vrav was stunned for a moment but he understood the motions of move that way and did as instructed. "Interesting it does not seem to keep it down for long." The Vulcan had not met a species that had that ability yet it only pushed him wanting to study them more.
"We need to figure out what to do with it since the Brig is down on F Deck," she said as they made their way to the Armory locker, which would be around the next corner. "At least the armoury locker should have a pair of restraints stocked."
Darru nodded and lead the way. They passed no more officers or crew as they reached the armoury locker. "Do you not believe Warrant Officer that it is very quiet?" He said feeling as if there should be gunfire or at least some noise other than themselves moving around the deck.
"Yeah, definitely too quiet," she said, as she typed in her security code with one hand and keeping the Vrav weapon leveled at the Vrav in the other. A moment later, the panel opened to reveal four-phase pistols and two restraints. She reached in and took a more familiar phase pistol and handing one to Darru. "Cover me while I restrain this Vrav."
Darru followed her lead as requested. He knew the processes but this was different than training and it was not like on a Vulcan ship anything had happened like this in a very long time. It was not muscle memory like it was for the woman stood them to him. "We can put him in there." He pointed to the waste system. Seemed appt to him to store the boarder there.
"Sounds good," she replied as she restrained the Vrav before taking him by the shoulder and pushing him towards the waste system room and shoved him in. As the Vrav stumbled to the deck, she drew her phase pistol, thumbing it to stun setting and fired it at the Vrav. The body of the Vrav collapsed and she closed the door, inputting a security code into the door console to lock it. She let out a sigh. "Well, that's one taken care of for now. Let's go. I'm sure his friends will be looking for him soon."
"Just remember they do not have a stun setting Warrant Officer. They hunt to kill." The Vulcan said. He was just reminding her of the fact as it would serve as a leveller to her emotions and allow her to think a little clearer. "Where would you like to go now?" He wondered as the lights flickered.
"Well, uniform or no uniform, my first job is to secure this deck and then proceed deck by deck, hopefully getting our little group here bigger," Maddison explained as she peered around the corner, seeing that it was clear, she stepped out into the corridor and began to make her way down. "Can you hear anything?" she asked in a hushed whisper.
Darru did not understand what clothes meant with anything but he nodded. The Vulcan closed his eyes for a second and listened intently. He could hear nothing other than his own heartbeat which was beating just a little bit more than its norm. "Nothing other than me and you." He assured.
"Odd," she commented. Something felt off about the whole situation. "Let's go," she motioned. "I appreciate the help." She turned back to the Vulcan.
Darru would have normally concurred her estimation of odd but he did not want to talk more than what was necessary. The situation was most unusual, he could not think of why the Vrav would risk it all now. Why they would risk all this chaos for a last-ditch effort, It was not logical at all.
After several minutes, the deck was nearly cleared. Maddison couldn't get her mind off the fact they had only encountered one Vrav on this deck. What had been the Vrav's mission? Scouting? Was it overconfident in its abilities? She checked around the corner of a side corridor, seeing nothing. As she stepped out, two Vrav appeared and fired. One round missed Maddison while the other tore through her right shoulder, sending her reeling into the port bulkhead. "Shit!" she cursed, ducking behind the corner bulkhead. Her right shoulder felt like it was on fire, along with the warm, wet feeling of blood oozing from the wound. She fired two shots off blindly to keep the Vrav at bay with her phase pistol.
The Vulcan pursed his lips as he smelt the blood in the air, was human blood always so strong? He wondered as he glanced around the corner trying to gauge and logically access the situation. "Stay back. You are hurt!" Darru commented to the woman as he levelled a shot and fired. It hit the vrav hard sending him to the floor before he turned to his companion.
"Only a scratch," Maddison joked. "I'm not dead," she continued before firing off another shot, narrowly missing the other Vrav.
"Well, that is obvious Warrant Officer." The Vulcan assured as his shot fired true and hit the Vrav hard. "I believe you need more practice with your uninjured arm for the future." He commented stepping out slowly to see that there were not more.
"And I'm supposed to believe that Vulcans are ambidextrous? You can perform actions with the same efficiency with either hand? Especially when wounded?" she shot back as she made her way to the downed Vrav, grimacing at her shoulder--that weapon really hurt. Much more than it should have as she was unable to even raise her arm. At least it looked and felt like the round went straight through her shoulder, yet bleeding much more than a normal projectile wound should be. She knew that she had to get the bleeding slowed or stopped.
"It is a logical approach to be able to use both hands equally." The man said holstering the pistol he has in his belt as he finally took in the wound. "We need to look at your bleeding shoulder before we go any further Warrant Officer." He was not going to argue as it would be foolish, they both knew it needed to happen.
"Fine, take a look but make it quick," she said, keeping an eye out for more Vrav.
"In there." The man instructed not knowing what the room was but it was off the corridor and that was what they needed right then. He would need to fully concentrate.
She entered with her phase pistol at the ready, instantly recognizing the room as the Upper Observation Deck. She swept the room with her weapon. After a moment, she was satisfied. "It's clear," she said as she sat down on a nearby couch.
Darru said nothing as he moved into the familiar space and searched out a first aid kit. It would not be perfect but it would give them a better chance of getting her back on her feet. The man knelt in front of her and took a look at it as he opened the kit to see what was in there. "Ever needed this type of first aid before?" He checked thinking on his basic medical training.
"Are you telling me you don't know basic first aid?" Maddison asked, raising an eyebrow. "And here I thought Vulcans knew everything," she jested with the corner of her mouth turned up in a grin. "Make sure the round went through. I think there's an exit wound in my back but you need to check to be sure and then work on stopping or at least slowing the bleeding."
"I do have basic first aid training." The man commented on quickly as he started to do just as she requested. "We have never claimed to know everything." Darru countered. He for one tried to not insinuate anything with the humans as they were a touchee bunch.
"I used to work security at the Vulcan Embassy on Earth..." Maddison grimaced as pain shot through her shoulder and back from the wound. "You may not know everything but you all sure do act like it."
"So how come you ended up here?" Darru wondered pressing a gauge against the front of the wound as he moved behind her to try and look at the wound. "It looks to have gone in and out. But I would need to look at the wound properly." He muttered indicating the grey tank top.
"Fine," she said as she pulled off the tank top, leaving only her sports bra covering the top "After my stint at the Vulcan Embassy, I was assigned to the NX Program," she grimaced again. "And later the NX Enterprise before being assigned to instructor duty at the Academy after my fiancé was killed on the attack on Earth and then I got a transfer here. So here I am. What about you?"
"I apologise for needing that Warrant Officer." He avoided her gaze as he moved behind her. "Vulcan Science Academy, Vulcan Embassy and then here." He replied pressing her shoulder as quickly as he could to see if there was thing left it there before using the saline solution to check for small pieces.
"No need to apologize. I'm a big girl," she joked as she grimaced from the Vulcan's touch on her wound. Yet he was being surprisingly gentle. "What is your field of study?" she asked, taking a breath as a wave of pain subsided.
"Biology." He said without a moment of hesitation. Leroux might know what his real vocation was but at the moment no one else needed to know that. "Might be a big girl but I am pretty sure it still hurts." He knew it would hurt him if the role were refused.
Maddison could only chuckle at the comment. "So how does it look?"
"You shall live." The man assured quickly pressing more gauge again her shoulder using some tape to secure it to still allow motion. "We should seek you out some proper medical attention despite it bring through and though. The projectile sealed the wound a lot but still need to get it 100% clotted."
Maddison grimaced as she rolled her shoulder. "Thank you," she said sincerely as she pulled her tank top back on.
The Vulcan just nodded and started to put items back in the first aid kit. "So where to now Warrant Office?" he questioned wanting to know her plan before he suggested one of his own.
"We finish securing the deck and make our way up, and hopefully run into someone else until internal comms are reestablished," Maddison said, standing up.
