Darru was not put off by his first participant and his lack of interest. No bother, humans were fickle and the man would realise his merit soon enough. He had been lucky that the woman in question was easily paired off with someone else as the men outnumbered women. The other man he was sure would appreciate Ensign Victoria Jemison and they were nearly just as compatible. “Ensign Luis Martinez a moment of your time please.” Maybe not just blurting out why he was there would be a better approach.

Dropping his PADD to his side to give the Vulcan his full attention, Luis replied, "Sure, what can I do for you?" He was almost convinced that this conversation was going to go one of two ways. One, he would be talked down to about how Vulcan ways were superior. The other was that the Vulcan had some science experiment to conduct on the primitive Human. Either way, Martinez was ready to be talked to as if he were a child.

"I understand that you are now our acting chief armoury officer? Congratulations." Darru offered in a stiff way that spoke that he was trying to at least day some feedback he had gotten from other people. "You have not seen my message?" He realised as the man was asking what he could help him with. Perfect, he was not tainted by the message and it could be discussed like two professionals.

"Not yet," Luis replied as he glanced down at the staggering number of unread messages on his PADD. Giving the Vulcan a return on the attempt to return some feedback, the Ensign added, "Thank you for your congratulations." Looking to the Vulcan, Martinez was fighting a bit of fatigue of pulling the slack of the incarcerated Sloan, "So, you wanted to speak with me?" There was no tone, just a wanting to get the ball rolling on whatever Darru had planned.

"Yes. I have started a project to allow us to successfully get the ship home." Darru started. He was not sure that they should attempt to get the ship home but the crew were determined to attempt this venture so he would humour them. "I have been looking at the male and female ratio on the ship and you are lucky enough that you are genetically a match for another crew member to create strong offspring." He started into his sales pitch to the man. Maybe that was where he was going wrong.

Not exactly liking what he was hearing so far, Luis replied. "Interesting." Crossing his arms a bit as an unconscious way of showing a bit of displeasure, Martinez added, "I know that you don't really grasp Human culture, but arranged marriages fell out of favor centuries ago." He hoped that he was not hearing what he thought he was hearing, which made him reinforce his statement with, "We encourage our young to follow their heart. The heart wants what the heart wants, as the saying goes."

"It is not about the heart," Darru commented on with a roll of his eyes at just how simple the humans really were. He had a lot of respect for them but their viewpoint being so simple was something he could not defend or work on with them. "It is simple to understand but strong genetics will avoid waste of supplies." He said feeling another member of the crew was going to be saying no.

"I'll humor you," Luis replied with an equivalent eye roll. "What makes my mystery blind date so compatible with my strong genetics?" He was actually genuinely curious in the Vulcan's point of view.

"Some people are carriers of genes for genetic illnesses, even though they don't show signs of the illness themselves. This happens because some genetic illnesses are recessive. This means they cause symptoms only if a person inherits two copies of the problem gene, one from each parent." it was layman's terms but the man was not a scientist but armoury. "I have surmised from the crew samples that I have that you carry none of these so you have a strong chance of creating no strain on our resources with your offspring," Darru said without looking up from his PADD as he found the relevant file for the man.

"I'm happy that my offspring won't be a burden to the crew," Luis replied a little quickly. Deciding that a blind date might be a welcomed distraction of the current situation, the Acting Chief asked, "Supposing that I go along with this little... social experiment of yours. How would this work?"

Darru raised an eyebrow at the quickness of the reply but said nothing on it. He was not there to pry into the man's life anyone more than he already had. It was not his intention. "That is up to you. I do not claim to know about human mating practices." Darru said with a shrug. He had never gotten this far in the conversation before. It would be intriguing to observe what happened next and what other matches they had.

"Well... set me up then," Luis replied. He set his expectations fairly low. Knowing Vulcans, he could only assume that logic would be the only deciding factor in this little experiment and the finer things about the opposite sex might be ignored. The Armory Officer was already regretting his decision.

Darru nodded with approval at the young man. This was someone he would be watching in the future as he seemed to know what was for the best. "The information has already been sent to you. What you do now is very much up to you Ensign." The Scientist commented on with a nod. He was not getting involved in that option, he had done his work with finding someone.

The Ensign’s PADD pinged as a new alert notification chirped. Luis made the call to wait until he was out of the watchful gaze of the Vulcan before he would even think about looking up his match. “I don’t really know how to end this conversation, but those photonic torpedoes won’t calibrate themselves. I should go,” he replied pointing toward the armory room.
