Things had wrapped up in sickbay, it had been rather uneventful and for most departments on the vessel that would be a bad thing, not so for the medical department. It gave Avira time to review the medical treatments they had done over the past week and she saw that some of the people had not showed up to their follow-up appointments. She had made a list and made her way over to the one at the top of her list for a surprise house call. It was unorthodox, that much was sure, but on a ship like this, it wasn't like they could run away from her. Arriving at the door she pressed the chime and awaited a response from inside.
The woman inside the quarters had been sleeping soundly wrapped up in her fuzzy pink blanket when the chime had woken up. The blanket was a stark contrast to the rest of the room and stood out like a sore thumb but Lexi loved it and found comfort in the small piece of home. She stumbled to her feet thinking it was Mattias having forgotten the code but the blue woman stood there threw her for a moment. "Doctor?" She blinked.
"Good evening, Ensign, you missed your appointment earlier today," Avira stated matter of factly and didn't exactly wait for an invite into the room before stepping past her into the small quarters, "So, I thought I'd come to visit you after my shift, make sure everything was still alright.
"Oh," Lexi said blinking still trying to wake herself up enough to try and figure out what was going on. "I am sorry. I must have slept through it. I thought I had set an alarm." She admitted with a big yawn. Today she was feeling absolutely knackered not sorry suddenly if that was good or bad.
Avira frowned slightly, "That's quite a sleep in, late night?" She put the medkit on the small side table. It hadn't been that long ago that she herself was in a bunkbed room before she had to replace the CMO and got her room much closer to sickbay. That was the price she had to pay for being the primary physician on board, she was always on duty.
"Not overly. I woke up for an hour or so overnight but it was not anything major. Must just have needed the sleep?" Her and Mattias had not been awake for long but she had been left drained by the nightmares. It was what it was but it would be better if she had not potentially ignored the reminder.
"Any other residual effects from the injury?" Avira her antennae angled at the woman, as if they were scanning her closely as she ran the medical scanner over the woman's injured shoulder.
"Just a bit of itchiness other than a nibbling pain," Lexi responded staying perfectly still to allow the scan to be completed properly. She had been warned time and again to not wiggle by previous doctors that it was now a conditioned response to not move. She knew the nibbling pain would be there for a while with her withdrawing from pain medication as it healed.
"To be expected," Avira nodded and smiled a bit at the Ensign, "any limitations to your arm's range and rotation? Can you do this for me?" She took a step back for a moment and showed how she swung her arm around, then held it over her head, stretching it.
"I do not believe so," Lexi answered and watched how the woman moved and stretched before doing it herself. It was a lot slower and caused a bit of a frown to the communication officer but she managed it. "That hurt a bit but was more like an ache." She had not really tried moving that way in a while.
Avira put a hand in front of her, "Push against this please," she asked as she kept monitoring the results on the medical scanner.
Lexi pushed against the hand frowning at how it felt.
The doctor turned her hand so that it was facing up, "Press down"
Pressing down felt better than pressing against but Lexi did not like just how strange her arm felt.
Then the Andorian physician twisted her hand so that it was facing down, "Press up."
The comms officer did as requested not sure if it was good or bad. She really was not sure if her shoulder was healing how it should me.
"How did that feel?" Avira retracted her hand and looked over the results of the medical scan, at first glance the woman was recovering very well from her injury.
"Weird." Lexi admitted with a frown rolling her shoulder. "Like I feel weak." lt was not a feeling that she usually liked at all. She did not feel like she had control of her body properly. "It feels weak. Is that normal?" She wondered.
"The projectile pierced your muscles and ligaments, I was able to restore them but all of that is new," Avira tried to give a comforting smile, before being on this ship all of her medical care was done under fire, people didn't care what she did so long as they came out alive. Now there were all these things to consider, like the fact that they needed mental support, "You'll have to train it back up, I can write up a training programme to help with that. You need to be careful not to overcompensate with your other arm or you might be left asymmetrical. That's rarely a good look."
"I would appreciate a training programme Doctor." It made sense now that she thought something other than how tired she felt that day. "I would really look bad asymmetrical." She whispered softly looking a little crestfallen at the potential.
Avira nodded, "I'll make sure to get one out to you then," she made a couple of notes on the PADD she had with her before pocketing her medical scanner and looking back up at Lexi, "is there anything else I can help you with at this time, Ensign?" She thought it was appropriate to ask before taking her leave.
Lexi thought about mentioning how she was scared to go onto the deck it had all happened but stopped herself. That was a can of worms she was not prepared to open at all. “Um... when can I return to duty?” She finally asked filling the gap with a question. She would eventually get some support but it was all so new for her.
There was that moment of hesitation, then a question that didn't seem to warrant it, Avira shrugged it off, "I'll clear you for duty starting tomorrow. I see no reason why you couldn't return to your tasks." She clasped her hands behind her back and made a small bow, "if there is anything else, you know where to find me." She turned and exited the room, right before the doors closed she added, "don't miss another appointment, Ensign."
