Illogical Logs

Kiyara had gone over the logs a couple of times now. It was odd, there were entries of things happening in rooms that no people were present in. Something that was perhaps a security concern, but also from an engineering and damage control perspective it wasn't something one ignored. "Eh. Sir." They gave a meek knock on the doorframe of the Chief Engineer's office. They didn't know if this was a good time to disturb the man, and if they should even be reporting what they couldn't quite explain at the moment. "Do you have a minute?" They didn't move in the door opening, waiting for permission to enter.
“Of course,” Sloan replied as he placed the PADD he had been reading down on his desk. The Chief stood the indicated the open chair on the other side of the desk, “Please, have a seat,” he offered.
For a moment they hesitated, but with a tentative few steps they closed the distance to the chair. "There's some discrepancies in the logs." They put her findings logged on their PADD on the table. "Access to systems when there's nobody in the room. Nothing serious or classified. It might be a glitch. But I've not been able to reproduce the issue."
The mention of discrepancies and glitches that cannot be reproduced caught Michael's attention. He sat forward in his chair and took a few moments to skim through the details of the PADD. "It may be paranoia from training in a previous life, but if I didn't know any better I would say that these are attempts to probe our system for vulnerabilities," he said carefully. Looking at Kiyara, Sloan asked, "Have you pulled sensor logs from the corridors outside of these locations? Disappearing life signs?"
"I'm just a simple damage controller, sir, I don't have that kind of security access." Kiyara gave a small smirk, hoping that their intentions of coming here were becoming a bit more clear to the Chief Engineer.
"Right," Sloan said mainly to himself. Perhaps the Romulan part of his brain was overly paranoid. They had not picked up any stragglers, the sensors would have picked it up by now. The alternative was a glitch in the system, either accidental or introduced. “I’ll get a team to perform a level one diagnostic. Would you mind showing me which ones you’ve already checked?”
"Yes, of course." Kiyara pulled up the relevant diagnostics and slid the PADD across the desk. "I've taken the liberty to set up everything you need, all you need to do is sign your name." They pointed at the bottom of the work order, "I can make sure they'll be delivered to the right crew." Before coming in here they had made sure there was a small team ready to go, the sooner they could get around to this the better it would be.
Still being a little on edge at the thought of there being a spy, well a spy that was no him, aboard the ship. It bothered him a little that the entire investigation was already lined up, but that was standard practice. Shaking away his doubts a little, Sloan signed his name to the bottom of the PADD. "Investigation is ordered," he stated. "Keep me updated on anything that is found."
"Will do, sir, thank you, sir." Kiyara was happy to have a Chief that was supportive of his team. They would be able to get some proper investigations started now, without a lot of the red tape preventing them from making progress. They turned and exited the room, heading for a secure terminal.
"Keep me updated," Michael called toward the Petty Officer as she began to walk. He went back to his PADD as he considered the implications.
