Lexi stirred as she heard voices in the distance. Her vision went blurry as tears filled her eyes as she recognised the voice as Leroux ordering people around? Why was she ordering people around? Since when did she order like that? The comms department head was the quiet voice of reason. She did not bark orders and sound so terrible. What was happening? Why could she not move? What was with the pain? Had James put her in the hospital again? No… that could not be right it did not feel like a hospital and it did not feel like that kind of pain. She had not been in pain since she joined Earth Starfleet. It had changed everything for the better but she just could not remember what had happened.
Biting back the pain was barely an option as agonizing cramps seemed to crush her insides from within. Cold shivers shot through her body and both her hands and legs were trembling. For a second they considered listening to their body which was telling them to stop, to just give up and just close her eyes but she did not listen. She was not going to listen to the voice that reminded her of the datecore. What datacore?
This was obviously how she was going to die. She tried her hardest to ignore the pain and focus on thinking through what had happened. She could not remember was happening but her head hurt so much. Her entire body was trembling now. Why was she trembling? What had happened to make her incapacitated? Why was she on a planet? Was she not just at a celebration for Captain Morgan getting command of the NX-05 Atlantis and choosing her final crew for the mission to Xindi. She had been flirting with someone… what was his name again? Did it matter? She was in a situation where she was not going to ever see him again from where ever she was. He had been cute if not stunned by her flirting. It had been on her terms and it had been nice.
Weak and exhausted it cost her all their remaining strength to keep fighting against the need to close her eyes. She started to count to one hundred in Dutch then mandarin then started on Vulcan. That Vulcan Darru had been teaching her at the latest team bonding meeting that had happened. Why could she not do it now? It was harder and kept her mind focused. Her head felt heavier and heavier as each pulse of throbbing pain pounded her senses over and over again making her aware of just how woozy she felt.
The datecore was not going to be right. What datacore? She thought over and over again trying to think on why it was important and why she was so desperate for it not to be right. She let out a moaning yelp, part desperation and part determination that someone would hear her and work out what was going on. She had two options: fight or give up but her body felt so weak and the trembling had stopped now. She took a deep breath, and then another. It was her best attempt to regain their composure but it was hard work when her eyes started to close.
The final thought she had as her eyes closed was that Earth Starfleet was not meant to end in pain. It was meant to be her sanctuary.
