Samantha sat in the captain's chair, looking at the planet below them in orbit that was pictured on the viewscreen at the moment, which also many of the crew were on the surface, exploring while she and a skeleton crew were left behind to watch things aboard the ship. Things so far, had been quiet on the surface that she had a chance to visit once when she had helped to fly down supplies via the shuttlepod. Lately, things had been tough for everyone on the ship, and she knew they all needed a break--herself included. She was broken from her train of thought as a crewman stepped near her off her right, extending a PaDD to her.
She took the PaDD, looking at it. 'Ah, an authorization to begin maintenance on a relay junction on E Deck,' she concluded before taking a stylus and signing her name on the form. "How long will this take?" she asked the crewman, looking up at him.
"Engineering says it will take about one hour, ma'am," the crewman replied.
Samantha nodded at the answer. "Understood," she replied as she handed the PaDD back to him. "Carry on."
"Aye, ma'am," the Crewman replied as he stepped away to submit the authorization to Engineering.
Looking at a nearby chronometer. It was time for a break--one that she needed as things were boring on the ship at the moment. "I'll be in the Mess for a break. Ensign Callahan, you have the bridge," she replied, looking at the Helm Officer.
"Aye, ma'am," came the reply from the blonde human man.
Standing, Samantha made her way to the turbolift and selected E Deck. After a moment, the lift came to a halt. Stepping out into the corridor, she made her way to the Galley, passing two engineers that were pulling a bulkhead plate off to begin the Relay Maintenance. The officers nodded to Samantha as she passed. Upon entering the galley, she immediately caught sight of the chef, Cranston. "Hi Kyle," she greeted with a wave and a grin.
"Hey, Samantha," Kyle greeted back from behind kitchen. "How is your day going so far?" he asked as he approached her.
"Boring, to be honest," she replied as she approached the serving line. "What's on the menu today?"
Kyle broke into a huge grin. "Still serving breakfast at the moment. Can I whip up an omelet for you?"
"No thanks. But I will take a chocolate chip muffin and a coffee," she replied.
"Sure thing," he replied taking a muffin and tossing it at her.
Catching the muffin, she then moved to grab a cup and head for the coffee dispenser. "Have you had a chance to go down to the planet?"
"No not yet, but I am planning to go down around 1500. Are you staying on the ship?" he asked.
"Until the captain comes up from the surface and then I'll go down. Doing anything specific on the surface?"
"Actually, I'm hoping to find some new sources of food to help spice up the dishes up around here," Kyle replied with a shrug.
"Nice. Good luck with your hunt," Samantha offered. "Well, I better get to downing this muffin and coffee before I have to get back to the bridge.
"That exciting, huh?" Kyle asked with a chuckle.
"You know, with the Vrav and then the Caelistis, you'd think I would enjoy the peace and quiet but honestly, I'm finding myself getting anxious to get moving," she admitted, before taking a sip of the coffee.
"Take some advice, Lieutenant. Take the down times when you can," Kyle suggested. "Enjoy this peacefulness because you never know what tomorrow may bring."
"Perhaps. See you for lunch, Kyle," Samantha said as she made her way over to a table near a viewport.
"I'll be here," came the reply as Kyle moved back into the kitchen.
