Still thirsty and dry, even after a long drink of water, and his voice somewhat slurred Stenn announced.
"You are Doctor Avira zh'Kenarh" To the Andorian "Why are you in my dream Doctor?"
Avira gave a small nod, "well, if you want to get formal, it's Chiyaviraghlin. But Doctor, or Doctor Avira will suffice." She glanced over at the medical readouts on the monitors. It was ironic, she had a lot more experience with Vulcan physiology compared to that of humans thanks to the years of conflict the two species had had. "As for the contents of your dreams, perhaps something to meditate on. But I reckon it's because your senses were picking up on your environment even during your comatose state. Processing my presence. It's been quite a while since you were knocked out."
"Knocked out?" Stenn repeated. "You are suggesting l was unconscious?
For how long?"
This was unexpected. He had been partly convinced this was still some form of dream still. But was it possible that he had suffered an injury and been unconscious.
That would be a logical explanation for his presence in sickbay.
More logical than this being an ongoing dream...
But he could not recall any event that would have resulted in such an injury.
Moreover, wen he tried to think on it, he was not actually sure what he could recall now. There were vague recollections of having come aboard, interactions with the crew and MACO team and their launch.
But then what he could remember became even less clear.
Trauma resulting in unconsciousness was indeed a logical explanation but this would need considerable reflection.
He looked to the Doctor and spoke honestly."Doctor, l do not doubt what you say but l am unable to remember events with an degree of clarity"
"There's plenty of time to catch up on the events that transpired. In order to measure the severity of your trauma I'd like to run you through a couple of questions." Avira stepped away and grabbed a Padd from the nearby trolly. "Do you feel up for that?"
"Yes I believe so" Besides a sore throat and perhaps a little lethargy Stenn did not actually feel unwell.
"Do you remember what vessel you're serving on, and in what capacity?" She started with something she knew would've been known to him several weeks before the incident that landed them in the position they were in.
Lottie had stayed quiet to the side taking down notes and reading off the stats to herself. Everything seemed normal and had for a while but he had just not woken up. She was relieved that he was speaking English as she was sure Darru was on the planet and it would have taken him an hour if not longer to get back which would have created an awkward and difficult situation.
"Yes, this is the Human vessel, Atlantis, named for a mythical civilization from Earth, that was engulfed in a flood. It is an eN-Ex Class, the latest Human design, however it is inferior to Vulcan craft of the same... "
He trailed off, recalling that was what one of his Human Instructors had called too much information
Which he had considered a rather illogical point of view but this was perhaps not the time to debate that.
"Ahem..." He cleared his throat
"And I am assigned as the MACO Detachment Executive Officer under Major King" He finished. That information had come readily into his head he noted.
"Alright. Very good." Avira took note of everything. "What is the last thing you remember before blacking out?" With the amount of trauma suffered by everyone and the time spent unconscious it was always difficult to predict exactly how much she had to fill in.
Stenn thought for a moment, what was the last thing he remembered?
Details of the ship he could recall easily, but other events were somehow harder to gather in his mind
"I believe it was when we had to traverse a region of dangerous radiation." He paused "Yes the crew was required to gather in the more shielded areas of the ship I remember that, we were sleeping on the floor. Then... " He paused again, his brow frowning in concentration.
"I am not... sure. I seem to recall some turbulence..."
He looked over to the doctor, he hid it well, but there was concern behind his eyes. "I do not know what happened after that, only that I am now here"
"Well that seems about right, no retrograde amnesia then." Avira wasn't quite sure if she should detail everything that happened immediately. "How long do you think has passed between that moment and today? Were there any fleeting moments of consciousness? Any sensations that registered? A sense of time passing?"
Stenn noted the phrasing of the question, which seemed to imply that he had been here longer than she thought he might expect. When he thought on it he realized that, until waking, he had felt like he was just experiencing a normal dream and therefore just a normal night of sleep. Even though the question would indicate otherwise, he could only answer truthfully. "I Do not Doctor, I believed I was having a normal overnight dream. I take it that more time has passed?"
Avira nodded, "A lot more time has passed since we encountered that anomaly. You were injured and in a coma for over 270 days." She allowed a moment for that to sink in, as the logical expectation would be for him to have been returned to Vulcan and not stuck in this human ship.
"Nine Earth months?" Stenn kept his voice level, but inwardly he was surprised, very surprised. How had it been so long? He needed to time to review this.
"I can get Lieutenant Darru if you need me to Captain." The nurse offered softly. It might be helpful to the man to have another Vulcan there. Darru had adapted without much issue apart from the dating service he had practically set up but maybe it would be helpful to have that male influence.
"That might be helpful, thank you." Avira turned to Stenn again, "Aside from the mechanical and physical damage, the anomaly displaced us to about 150 years away from the nearest Human outpost at high warp."
Lottie shot the doctor a look but said nothing. “Captain are you okay with that?” She asked the marine defaulting to him and if he wanted anyone.
Still trying to come to terms working through the time he had been unconscious; the second revelation on how far the ship had travelled almost seemed uncredible, yet he had no reason to think the Doctor was misleading him. That distance was father than any Vulcans had ever travelled. He had so many questions...
Gathering his thoughts, he focused on something more tangible. Darru was the Vulcan Science liaison officer, from the Vulcan Science Council, unlike Stenn he had not fully transferred to United Earth service. Contact with one of his own people would be helpful he determined.
"Yes, thank you, Nurse" He nodded to Daglish, "I believe that would be beneficial."
Lottie just waited patiently for the man to think about what he wanted to do and if he wanted his fellow Vulcan to come to visit. It was important to give the patient the choice in a situation like this. "I will try my best Captain. Excuse me," Lottie offered a small smile and disappeared off to try and get contact with the planet below and request to speak to Darru.
"Well then." Avira took another glance at the medical readings, "your readings are all within acceptable parameters. I would advise you to take things easy for a couple of days." She didn't see the need to keep him in the sickbay, "please report back the moment to experience anything or of the ordinary, but other than that you're released from my immediate medical care."
Stenn nodded "Thank you Doctor. I appreciate your care while I was unconscious" It was strange to be expressing gratitude to an Andorian, a few short years ago their species had been enemies, now, through the intervention of Humans, their respective planets were on more cordial terms.
It was not a long conversation for Lottie as the Vulcan never said more than he needed to but he was going to be on the next available flight back to the planet. "He is on the planet we have discovered but he will be back soon. Can I do anything to help Captain?"
"No thank you, Nurse" Stenn replied, perhaps a little distracted by the recent revelations. "I would like some time to meditate on events"
Lottie nodded. It was an easy request for the woman and she appreciated that a lot would have changed for the man that he would need to understand. She turned away to carry on duties for the day as she knew the doctor could deal with anything else that happened from then on out, she could be more useful elsewhere.
