Beth was rushing around her quarters trying to gather everything she would need to return to the planet: armoury vest, weapon belt, rucksack notebook full of everything that Lexi and Cristóbal had gathered and PADDs. She looked up as her quarters chime rang. It would either be Gerhard telling her to hurry up or the chief communication officer had finally been able to escape long enough for them to catch up. She moved, opening the hatch relieved to see her communication chief standing there.

“Come in. It’s a walk and talk conversation.” She said knowing he already knew what was going on with the confusion after spending the last few hours wandering around the ship translating for different areas of the ship.

Cris stepped into the threshold of the door but dare not come any further. Watching the Captain move to get things ready for their next steps, he wondered how someone so young could handle command of an NX class starship so well. He gave a professional but meek grin at her and crossed his arms under his chest.

"That's fine with me, ma'am. Makes me feel like I'm getting something done," he said with an easy tone, his voice lacking pretext but still a pleasing accented baritone. "Walking around the ship looking for common languages has its...seriously awkward moments."

Beth glanced at the man watching her but did not comment they have known each other a year now as she had been his department head before becoming Captain so it was easy to slip in and of their shared languages but then and there she chose Russain. It was neither a language they spoke often so it would be a good test. "I can imagine it would not have been but I could not send O'Connery for obvious reasons. She is not even meant to be on duty let alone on the bridge. Was there anything that stands out that you need to report?" She asked slipping the armoury vest on and started doing it up.

"Only that programing an easy translation function on all of our computers would be a damn good idea," he said with a grin. "And, of course, it was my pleasure to help out where I could. Not being able to communicate with the people around one is certainly not any fun."

"I am sure we can consider it in the future but as we left Earth as a test ship for the universal translation units it will take some time to implement it once we get out of this mess." Beth reported slipping on the armoury vest getting it the right way first attempt without help or needing it to be adjusted by someone else.

“Sure.” He said, nodding and looking at the attractive woman with dazzling eyes. He said nothing for a while, but simply watched her get ready. When he did speak, he did so in a lyric and calm voice, like he was telling a secret. “Is there anything I can help you with, ma’am?”

“Nope other than promising to be the eyes and ears on the ship and to keep communication going between departments around the ship.” It did not need to be mentioned on keeping Lexi out of trouble as well.
