After the reports and everything else from the Tower had been properly processed and neatly filed away Avira could focus back on her research. The information she had been able to recover from E.D.E.N. was helping her put together some working hypotheses on how to alleviate the symptoms, but nothing had been offered to help cure her. It had been a long day but she knew that she couldn't quite stop until the away team had returned and was properly decontaminated. The process had made a lot of strides with the help of Vulcan and Andorian tech, no more need to sit under UV light for hours on end.
"Alright then." She got up from her seat and looked at the last crew member stepping into the room. She felt her antennae curl up and a sense of vertigo overcame her. She grabbed onto the medical tray next to her to keep from falling over. Looking up she saw... someone... it took a moment before she realised it was John Smith. "I.. Didn't know you were on this away team." The concerns and confusion as to why a morale officer would be on a low-g expedition to an asteroid quickly ebbed away, "let's get you processed."
“Are you okay doctor?” John asked earnestly as she grabbed the tray to keep upright. He smiled as he reached for her to help her stand up straight. “It was the same issue all over the ship today. Maybe it is you that need processing. I can do that if you need. You have trained me well.” He joked. “I joined last minute to get some experience in the other ships suit. Remember we got a suit from that ship and it has not been used yet.”
For a moment Avira questioned whether or not she had trained him at all, but it came back to her as he said it. The patience in going over the different scans and outcomes. It was good to have some extra hands in the sickbay. It would've come in handy during the collapse of the tower. It did come in handy during that time. She shook her head a bit, "sorry, been working long days lately, trying to figure some medical stuff out." Her antennae twitched. She wondered what she was so confused about just a moment ago. "Other people have been having signs of exertion?" It didn't surprise her. After a tumultuous time, it was usually the lulls in between that caused people to give in to the mental and physical stress. All the things that had been postponed suddenly take a toll on the mind and body.
John just gave her a patient smile waiting for her to catch up. “Yeah.” The man said simply as he took the scanner from her without a word. It was an easy instrument that he was familiar with. “You look like you are having the same signs of exertion as others.” He said passing the scanner back to her without even looking at it again.
It took Avira a second to realise it wasn't really normal that someone would do their own medical scan after returning from an expedition. She checked the readings and found them all very nominal. The thought that they were a bit too average only occupied her mind for a blink of an eye. "All good then." She looked up from the medical scanner. "Since you're the morale officer, what do you propose we do about the issue of stress among the crew?"
“We need a bit of downtime. Been an adventurous few weeks for us all.” He said with a big smirk as he sat back on the biobed. “Something fun.” He started to muse. This was his few test if he could pull this off with the crew that he had stumbled upon.
Avira frowned a bit, something fun was implied of course. She tried to remember some of the other things they had done in the past to boost crew morale. There was a moment where she remembered Aurelius organising something. Why did Aurelius organise something if they had a dedicated morale officer? She looked back up and those questions faded from her mind, "what do you propose? Another movie night?" There had been one recently, she figured Smith must've had a hand in organising that one as well.
“Well everyone seemed to like the one I organised before so I guess so.” The man said taking her thread of thought and carrying on with it. “I am sure there will be more suggestions of what people want as I go around the ship over next couple of days.”
"Let me know if you need anything, I'm happy to help." There was a sensation of relief that someone would be taking over some of the mental health aspects of her job, when Avira realised that Ensign Smith had always been there to take care of those aspects. Her antennae twitched again as she adjusted to that thought.
“Are you feeling better now doctor?” John asked laying a hand on her fore arm.
The touch startled her from her ruminations, Avira looked up at John and the doubts ebbed away, "I'm alright, just need a rest. Like I said, it's been a long day." She closed the scanner and would process the check-up tomorrow morning. "You're cleared for duty, Ensign."
“Very long day.” John grinned and walked out of the sickbay. He had much to do.
