The continuous back and forth to the ship of water and algae had not stopped since the supply had been found even if Sloan had gone missing and people were still searching for him. The sun was still not setting despite the ships time now starting to reach evening and people getting more and more tired by the moment. They had found substance and they we not backing down now.
Darru looked at the current containers that he had sanitized and checked before another crewman loaded. "How much do you think that makes now?" The crewman asked no one in particular as he jumped down from the pod to grab more containers.
"I've lost count...but we keep on working until someone tells us to stop." Ben Livingston kept moving containers over near the landing spot. He was more then happy to see the supplies heading up to the ship. He was tired...being on duty for 10 hours, but he didn't want to leave until the ship's water and food supplies up to normal.
"Do not overload those shuttlepods! They cannot be replaced!" Chief Engineer Carter barked at two crewman trying to force a container into the back of shuttlepod 1. "Set it down and wait for the next one or you're going to be harvesting algae instead of carrying it."
Livingston winched when he heard the chief rip the two crewmen a new one. He was just glad it wasn't him.
Allia jumped, it had been relatively quiet until the voice spoke quickly, urgently wanting those crew members to pay attention. She'd been scanning the containers and thinking about how they could be converted into food that the crew would actually want to eat. She wasn't going to admit it in the moment but her mind had wandered very far from where she physically was and she'd been startled far more than she should have by the sound. She was tired and hungry and just wanted to go home. A single tear escaped before she rubbed it off with the crook of her arm.
The young engineering officer, Victoria Jemison, quickly scanned some of the containers. This particular one had been filled slightly past the safe level, "I need a container to put some of this in. Keep an eye on the safe capacities. If this box bursts, the shuttlepod can lose stability and crash." The last part was mostly to herself.
Darru remained silent but gave the Ensign another container. He was there to be brawn despite what they all thought of Vulcan's not all of them thought things like that were beneath them. He was science but his skills were next to useless at the moment. Maybe he needed to think about training in another department? What else could he do that would he helpful? It was logical to think outside the box in this type of situation.
Never being able to tell if a Vulcan was stuck in thought or just being a Vulcan, Victoria asked, "I hope we aren't too bad for you. I have heard Vulcans find us a bit repulsive." Her tone was not meant to be mean or demeaning, but her only experience with Vulcans were rumors.
"I think at this stage Ensign Jemison we all smell repulsive." The Vulcan said without hesitation that his candour might offend. It was the truth and he would be the first to admit he needed a proper shower.
Satisfied with the Vulcans answer, Victoria replied, "Fair enough." After transferring some of the contents of her container into the new one, she asked, "How many more of these before the ship is full?"
Allia stopped what she was doing to listen for a moment. She really wasn't sure why as she wasn't loading the containers, merely scanning them to insure they were sealed properly and contained what they were supposed to contain. Her imagination wandered briefly to the thought of tiny little aliens being stored in the containers and running amok, reeking havoc on the ship after they got them back up.
Darru nodded at the Ensign, the conversation ended there and then. "Three." A Science office spoke up from inside the shuttle not sure if he was being asked or not. But he did have the answers so offered it up to the Ensign.
"Make that two containers, sir," Ensign Constantine grunted as he walked over with a fully loaded container. His size and strength was proving to be an asset on the planet. His mood was good, relatively speaking, born out of the opportunity to leave the ship and get planet-side, even if it was just for a supply run. Mentally, it felt near-therapeutic for him to actively participate in gathering supplies that would facilitate their survival.
"How are we doing? Should I go back for another collection of algae or water?" Mattias looked towards the team assembled near the loading door of shuttlepod two.
Looking at the load reports, Victoria stated, "Looks like this should be the last load. This will top off our storage units, anything more and we overload our filtration systems." Shrugging a bit, she added, "With this load, we can recycle the protein and water for the foreseeable future."
Darru nodded, his calculations were very similar. He would be really thankful when he could shower again properly. It was hard work sweating and not being able to clean up afterwards. "Shall we get going then?" He wondered jumping out of the hatch to allow it to be sealed up.
Looking around to the rest of those around the group, Victoria replied, "I think that's a wrap. I hope the other party can tell us something good about Commander Sloan." Her voice betrayed a bit of worry as the thought of their second-in-command falling victim of a tragedy would be devastating to the crew.
