The woman sighed as she tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear as she looked at a singed relay circuit in the firing chamber of the weapon and ignoring the fact she was hungry and tired. It wasn't the first time she replaced one and likely wouldn't be the last. Warrant Officer Maddison Walker wasn't an engineer by any means but she felt long ago that it was her job as an Armory Officer to know the ins and outs of every weapon system from the phase cannons to the phase pistol. Something she felt everyone who worked in Security on a ship should know. If anything, it helped out the engineers, freeing them up to fix bigger things.
Maddison worked on removing the bad relay, her body going through the motions as her thoughts went somewhere else--to their situation. "Stranded 150 years from home. What would you do, Haruto?" she asked herself in regards to her deceased fiancé who was killed when the Xindi attacked Earth. Despite all these years, she still missed him, missed his touch, and missed his advice. He always seemed to have an answer for anything. "I know, I know...stop talking to myself," she began again as she set the damaged relay aside and picked up the new one. "And keep a cool head. Gotta stay positive."
Setting the new relay in place, she worked on attaching the relay back into the phase cannon. 'Better add a reinforcing relay,' Maddison thought as she continued her work. 'Why it wasn't done in the first place before this ship launched is beyond me. Damn lazy engineers,' she thought bitterly. After a few minutes, Maddison placed the hyperspanner back into the tool kit and replaced the access panel. She stood up and grabbed her tool kit, stepping out of the maintenance room. Setting her tool bag down, she walked over to the MCD Screen, tapping a few commands into the screen to initiate a self diagnostic. A minute later, Maddison was satisfied as it came back fault-free. "Well, that's one tooth sharpened," she said to herself again, referring to the Atlantis' weapons system as she grabbed the tool bag and stepped out into the corridor.
