Aurelius wasn't sure this was a good idea. But she was the Captain of the ship, even if they weren't friends anymore. Surely she could be professional? He pressed the chime and waited for her to allow him entry, bracing for what he hoped would not follow.
Beth looked up as her chime rang. She looked over at her console and wondered if she had something in her diary. “Enter.” She was meant to be resting so she didn’t think she put anyone for today. She was surprised by who stood there. “Lieutenant Davis, what do I owe this pleasure?” She offered thinking she should have risen to greet him but her head hurt from the previous evening.
She was being formal so he decided to be as well. There was no use bringing up what had happened the other night. "Captain, I was hoping I could talk to you about turning some sort of space into an office. It could be as small as a closet as long as I could fit two chairs in it. I was hoping to be able to do my job in some sort of private space as not everyone wants to let me into their quarters."
Beth frowned. Have they not already discussed this? She paused and slowly indicated the vacate chair at her desk. “Haven’t we discussed this? I thought you were going to take the Captain's mess?” she wondered, wishing her head didn’t hurt. She could understand the need for privacy.
"Oh, yeah, I thought we had discussed it too, but then nothing happened so . . . . I decided maybe I had dreamed it." Aurelius scratched his head. "I'm getting old I guess. Anyway, so that's still okay with you then?"
Beth let out a sigh. “Please sit. My heat hurts I cannot keep looking up.” She explained leaning back. If it was un Captain like she would have had a blanket and something on her neck to help with the aching. “It is absolutely fine. I am not using the space. I am sure they can find other uses for the material inside.
He frowned slightly but sat. "Well, that's good then. But why does your head hurt and why have you not seen the doctor about it?"
Beth raised an eyebrow at his concern but shrugged. “I fell off a chair and I went to sickbay with Sloan.” She assured quietly remembering that she had left all her clothes in the laundry still. Well at least on the ship no one would steal it.
"Hmm," it seemed like if she had been to sickbay they could have done something for the pain in her head, but if it was manageable then perhaps they were trying to save supplies. "I had a friend at the academy who did that once. He swears he was sitting there and suddenly he was on the floor. But I suspect he was looking at Marjorie Deakins and just didn't want to admit it. Anyway . . . I guess I can go start looking at the space and setting up then."
Beth smiled a little and pictured the scene in her mind. It was always warm when she thought on the Academy though she knew very well that San Francisco could get cold but the memories and thoughts were always warm and sun-filled. "Well, I was just talking to Co... Ensign Sloan and that shoddy chair that we acquired for the laundry room from somewhere collapsed and sent me flying backwards and my head onto the steel floor. I felt it was nothing major but Sloan did so we went to sickbay and I got looked at." Beth nodded before wincing as she regretted that route. "If that is what you want to do then Lieutentnat do it."
"Ouch . . . . yeah, I'll get right on it." He hated this. They were going to be stuck on a ship together for a long time. Couldn't they at least be friends? "Can't we like apologize to each other and move on?"
Beth looked at the man as he finally spoke about the elephant in the room. Beth did not feel like she needed to apologise if she was honest with herself, she had done nothing wrong other than ask for time. She was the one hurting over all of it but she slowly relaxed, letting the frown slowly slip from her face. “Aurelius I’m sorry but I do not feel like I need to apologise for what happened. I did not do anything wrong and I guess neither did you but time is what is needed.” It was ironic that she was saying for not saying sorry but that was where she was.
She was so frustrating and he was so confused. "Nevermind," he said getting up. Perhaps what he needed was to lock himself in a room and just focus on what was ailing the crew, keep his mind off of her.

This is my favourite soap opera. I liiiiiiiive for the tension between them. Beth DECLINING to apologize is an iconic queen move. Stunning!
