Memories...

Mission: Mission 6 - Memory
Location: Leyton's Quarters
Timeline: Day 297 0200 Hours
754 words - 1.5 OF Standard Post Measure

Earth's sun was bright in the blue sky above a hangar at the old airport at Norfolk Virginia. Besides home, it was Leyton's second favorite place. Inside the large hanger were two aircraft from Earth's 20th Century. The first was her favorite, a British Supermarine Spitfire from Earth's Second World War painted in a camouflage pattern with the symbol of the Royal Air Force. She had already flown it in two airshows. The other was a US Grumman F-14 Tomcat. "So, feel like you're ready for the 'Cat?" came her grandfather's voice as he approached her, dressed in a flight suit as she was.

Samantha had learned and logged 100 hours in the simulator on the Tomcat but actually flying a plane was something entirely different. However, a smile formed as she nodded. "Sure am, Pop," she replied as she made her way over to the large 20th Century Naval Fighter. "I feel the need for speed," she smiled as she ran her hand across the smooth aluminum of the fighter's nose.

Her grandfather sighed, rolling his eyes in the process. "Don't you dare quote that god awful movie."

Laughing in response, Sam shrugged. "I know it's a crap movie but it's so crappy, it's awesome. Well, until they killed Goose, but I won't go there."

"Good," her grandfather replied, grinning as he tossed her red flight helmet with the callsign "Rebel" labeled on the top front. "Grab your flight gear while I have the plane towed out of the hanger."

"Sure thing!" she said excitedly, catching her helmet before turning and headed to her locker at the back of the hangar.

That world was pulled from her as her eyes opened, staring up at the darkened bulkhead above her as she laid on her bunk. She recalled that day with her grandfather like it was yesterday. The hangar and the antique planes were a treasure to her that she enjoyed every moment. She was beginning to wonder what she was doing on the ship. She thought the issue with her and the captain had been resolved but it hadn't, or at least didn't appear to as the woman still seemed to acknowledge her half the time at best and they were still stranded a lifetime away from Starfleet. She let out a deep sigh as she rolled over and tapped a command into a nearby terminal near her bed. Soon, a song she loved by a 21st Century musician named Lady Gaga began to play softly, filling the silent void of her quarters as a tear soon began to roll down her cheek. She closed her eyes, listening to the song trying not to think of how alone and lost she felt.

Tell me you need me

Hold my hand, everything will be okay
I heard from the heavens that clouds have been grey
Pull me close, wrap me in your aching arms
I see that you're hurtin', why'd you take so long

To tell me you need me? I see that you're bleeding
You don't need to show me again
But if you decide to, I'll ride in this life with you
I won't let go 'til the end

So cry tonight
But don't you let go of my hand
You can cry every last tear
I won't leave 'til I understand
Promise me, just hold my hand

Raise your head, look into my wishful eyes
That fear that's inside you will lift, give it time
I can see everything you're blind to now
Your prayers will be answered, let God whisper how

To tell me you need me, I see that you're bleeding
You don't need to show me again
But if you decide to, I'll ride in this life with you
I won't let go 'til the end

So cry tonight
But don't you let go of my hand
You can cry every last tear
I won't leave 'til I understand
Promise you'll just hold my hand

Hold my hand, hold my
Hold my hand, my hand
I'll be right here, hold my hand
Hold my hand, hold my
Hold my hand, my hand
I'll be right here, hold my hand

I know you're scared and your pain is imperfect
But don't you give up on yourself
I've heard a story, a girl, she once told me
That I would be happy again

Hold my hand
Hold my hand
Hold my hand, hold my hand
Hold my hand, hold my hand
Hold my hand
I heard from the heavens
