Beth looked around the sick bay trying to make sense of what was going on a bit better now she could stay awake before. First coming out of the tube she had been running on adrenaline but after Nathaja’s demise, she had slipped into the state she had been in the tube in and out of consciousness for what felt like forever until came back to herself.
She blinked at the three people who stood around her bed as if waiting for her confused. None of them connected made sense really but there had to be something they wanted to tell her. Was there any more space in her head there and then for more bad news?
“What is going on?” She finally uttered in French before repeating in standard with a heavy accent removing the face mask that was on her.
"The Away Team is back aboard the Atlantis and you and Petty Officer Szerda are safe, recovering in Sickbay, Captain," Samantha stated. "We are finishing loading supplies from the Caelistis. How are you feeling?"
Well, loading the supplies was good as they were going to need them. "Like I have been drugged and stuck in a statis unit." She said dryly attempting to sit up but that failed as her body was not quite ready to move. "What are you all doing crowded around like excited..." The word failed her for a moment so she sat there confused trying to find the word in any language. "Monkies." She finally decided was the apt word she was looking for.
Seeing the Captain slip into her native French, especially with the heavily accented standard, concerned Michael. It had happened before when Beth had suffered a concussion in the laundry room recently. "We are making sure that you are... okay," Michael responded. He tried to keep the concern out of his voice.
Beth frowned at him but nodded. She appreciated the concern but there was something more to it than that in her opinion. "I am okay as long as I am awake I am sure. I have had more sleep than I have had in weeks." She told him her gaze softening for a moment before she looked around taking in sickbay and that fact Szerda was still out. "Does not explain why you all look excited like you have something to tell me urgently. Nascimento talk?" She instructed picking the person who would not be able to not tell her.
Put on the spot, Elegy Nascimento still hesitated for a moment more. He cleared his throat, buying himself more time to think about how to explain his away team's findings. In a diplomatic timbre, he said, "The new hailing frequencies we've been coding were successful, Captain. We managed to access a Caelestis data core using a hand-scanner. The data we found would suggest... Nathaja and his people weren't stranded here from another quadrant of the galaxy. We think they were stranded here... from our future. The data core describes a history of our future."
Beth nodded slowly giving the impression for a long moment she had not really taken it in and it might have been too early to tell her something like that. “Our home was lost. The universe in ruin. The foundation tried to save who they could.” She said in a tone that was no where as shocked as she should have been at all. “There had been something in his words that he had said. Something I could not put my finger on.”
Rubbing the back of his neck, Elegy winced as he nodded at Beth's words. Elaborating on what they had both said, he added, "We... uh... we stole one of the data cores. We brought it back to Atlantis. It may hold the answers to what Nathaja said to you... the universe in ruin. When we first examined its files, we found mentions of a war coming to Earth."
“Can someone grab me some water if we are talking please?” Beth requested as she slowly ventured into sitting up.
As the junior officer around the biobed, Elegy scampered away without saying anything. He just nodded his assent. Crossing the compartment to the nurse's station, Elegy found a pitcher of water and poured out a glassful for the Captain.
Beth sat up leaning her head on her knees as she brought them up removing the mask that was over her mouth. “Thank you, Ensign.” She said taking the cool glass of water in both hands trying to not let on how much she was shaking.
After the Captain had taken her first drink, Elegy continued his report. "We didn't have time to read or catalogue much of the data before we brought the data core back to Atlantis," Elegy said as a caveat. He meant to imply that perhaps his understanding was mistaken, or the data core had been nothing more than a work of fiction. "We read about a war between Earth and the Romulans" --and he shared a brief, awkward look with Sloan-- "breaking out soon, long before we'll make it back. There appeared to be records of that, and hundreds more years of data."
"So it's a complete timeline from now until when the ship was lost?" Beth demanded a sinking feeling in her stomach as she realised what that could mean. How could someone resist having a look at their own personal future?
Elegy offered a nervous movement that was halfway to a shake of the head and halfway to a shrug. "We don't know, not for certain, Captain," Elegy replied earnestly. "Lexi and I stowed it in one of the disused science labs, and we reported to the Bridge before we could catalogue anything."
Beth looked at Sam firmly giving her a direct order. "It... It needs to be locked away secure if it had not been already. I don’t just want it left in an unused lab. No one can have access to it other than us here." Beth said sternly relieved that it was more secure than what it could have been. They could not risk temporal issues on top of the lost in space, alone, no supplies and no allies. It would just be the icing on the cake of disaster. Beth looked to Sloan knowing she could trust him. “Can you assist with that Ensign? Create some type of locker or… you are smart you’ll figure it out.” Beth said taking another long drink of the water relieved it was helping.
Everyone nodded in agreement at their specific jobs and roles that had been given to them. “Okay good. Now I need to be left alone to sleep. Known of you need to watch me sleep.” The Captain hinted sitting back on the bed as a nurse watched the group.
