Go For Help

Mission: Mission 2 - Fallout

As the two ventured further from the site where the shuttle left, Michael finally stopped with a glance to his scanner. "I'm reading something odd," he started, not sure what he was seeing. Showing his scan results to his companion, he added, "What do you make of this?"

Aurelius raised his eyebrows. "I hope nothing is going to eat us, I'm already having a bad week." He said leaning over the scans Michael had been doing. He was only a pilot and probably wouldn't recognize anything significant from them anyway. "Define odd," he said.

"We're all having a bad week," Michael replied, not exactly as a joke. Pointing toward the odd edge of the jungle, he shrugged as he stated, "It appears to be some kind of life form, but I can't get a good scan of it." Nodding toward the edge of the jungle, he asked, "Shall we?"

"Absolutely, sir." Aurelius knew he'd been pushing his luck with his sense of humor, but it was how he coped with things and though everyone else had been through a lot, they hadn't lost a good amount of usage of both of their hands. "Can you tell if it's small? Large?" Again he wondered about possibly being eaten. It wasn't on his life of the top five ways to go while serving in Starfleet.

"Shaking his head negative, Michael replied, "I can't even tell if it's a single entity or just background of the plants." As the pair ventured into the small jungle area, the atmosphere made it feel as though they had been walking for miles. "This just seems too perfect, don't you think? A small jungle that contains the a food source that just happens to contain the perfect amount of nutrients for a food supplement, all on a planet that shouldn't support life." He did not want to guess about the implications, but his voice held a healthy bit of suspicion.

"Hopefully someone just took up a hobby of terraforming?" Aurelius wasn't sure if he was asking or telling. He was hoping to be the silly optimist who would somehow turn out right. "I guess we explore and figure out this little mystery?" He followed Michael in, but felt jumpy with every footfall.

It was at that moment when Michael felt the ground beneath him give way. After a bit of a tumble, the Acting First Officer found himself facedown in the dark. He managed to bring himself to a sitting position before a terrible pain in his leg told him that standing would be impossible.

"Are you okay?" Sloan asked as he heard what had to be Aurelius stirring beside him. As he awaited the answer, a look up told Michael that they had fallen in what reminded him of a hidden trap he used to make in boot camp during his time with the United Earth Military. The dirt walls were slightly over two meters, meaning that normal conditions would have allowed him to climb out.

"Yeah, I think so." Nothing was hurting too badly, a few bumps, bruises and scrapes. His uniform was torn up a little bit. "Are you?" He sat up and then got to his feet a moment later before looking down at Michael. "Oh, maybe not. Don't worry, I'll get help." It might be a bit more difficult for him with not a lot of feeling in his fingers but he could still grip things. He should be able to figure a way to get up to where they had been. "You be all right if I'm gone for a little bit?"

Nodding a bit of reassurance, Michael replied, "I'll just have a seat until you get back." He pulled his phase pistol from its holster and held it in his hand, "Just in case." Looking to the other man, Michael asked, "Will you be okay? Getting out will be a bit harder than falling in."

"I imagine it will be, I'll get out, I just need to test things and bit and not fall back in. How hard can it be? You rest, take a load off, I'll do the running around." He glanced around him and waited for a good plan to fall into place about climbing out. "Alright, I'll be back in just a bit with help," Aurelius promised and he stuck one food in front of the other, using his legs as much as possible to lift him out and his hands only for guidance.
