Mission: Contagion
Location: Situation Room
Timeline: Day 366 Late
1683 words - 3.4 OF Standard Post Measure

Beth stumbled out of the public bathroom and took a deep breath as she heard the hatch open ahead that signified that everyone was arriving for the meeting she had requested with all the senior officers left onboard. She had plans to put in place as well as people to move around to make things easier for the people on the base and to keep the people left on aboard safe.

“Evening.” Beth offered weakly as she opened the hatch to the situation room and found the jug of water she had left there before her stomach had twisted into knots waiting for her.

One of the more useful personality traits Isaac had developed over the years, at least in terms of his current situation, was the ability to compartmentalise. For a very personal reason, he had a considerable amount of energy invested in the status of the away team and lack of communication wasn't doing much to alleviate concerns, but in Avira's absence, he was also in charge of crew health and thus he scrutinised the Captain quietly as he moved ahead of the group into the room and slipped into one of the seats. Now wasn't the time to call the woman out, but he made a mental note to hang back at the end. He dipped his head in greeting, offering those assembling behind him a wry smile, and set the notes he'd taken to rest against his knee.

Beth took a big gulp of the water discreetly trying to get rid of the taste in her mouth as both engineers that she had requested came into the room. Benjamin filled sat on one of the stools before thinking better so shifted to lean against the wall watching the display table. He had no idea why Andre had been called along side him but he secretly hoped it would be to discuss his being his replacement sooner rather than later.

Getting called to a senior staff meeting wasn't normal for Andre in the least bit. As far as he was concerned, he was either in some deep hot water or something really bad was going on that involved Engineering. Either way, he nodded to those present, taking a seat. He wasn't given to being put at unease so readily, but this whole situation was not making for a stress-free work environment.

Iryna came in and offered several nods before she sat on the stall looking like she would rather be anywhere else right then and there. Her hair was up in a tight ponytail and she looked ready for action even if she was technically on light duties she had a feeling that did not matter right then and there if they were being summoned for a meeting.

“Close the door please.” Beth requested waiting for it to close before she brought up the image of the base on the display in the middle. “The away team have made contact with a species called the Luminari onboard the base. They have discovered there is a virus onboard the base which was why there was a distress call.”

Though he did his best to curb any obvious reaction, Isaac's shoulders sagged a little under the relief. Silence had not been comforting, though finally hearing from the away team was a short-lived respite given the nature of their update. "It was the most likely projection," he pointed out quietly. "How close are they to a sample we can analyse?"

“We have a feed of data coming through now.” Beth leant over to another console and pressed a button to bring up the data that was coming from Lieutenant Darru and the doctor.

Benjamin sighed and rubbed his eyes as he moved leaning against the display to look at what was coming through as Voznyuk squirmed on her stools. She did not gave the technical known how to look through the data but she was already thinking of the security procedures that needed to be put into place.

The pads of his fingers worried at the bristles on his chin as Isaac scanned the data stream for any initial leads. It was a pointless exercise, of course, viral analysis wasn't something easily undertaken by simply staring at raw data. At least, Hughes had never cultivated the kind of talent required to extrapolate anything that quickly and his first impression left him only with a fairly obvious observation.

"It looks like they've only got limited information so far." It wasn't exactly a surprise, even if it was a little alarming. They'd already seen through the Realian's example that this region of space tended to exceed their technological potential by quite a bit. Something as complicated as analysing an alien virus wasn't going to be handled very well by the own devices and goodness only knew if the native population was in any state to assist with navigating their own medical facilities. It didn't bode well, at least, that they hadn't been successful in helping themselves. "Transmission will need to be established before we can proceed much further though." He dropped his eyes to meet the Captain's. "Are our people showing any signs of infection?"

Beth sat back on her stool and shook her head. “They are showing no symptoms as of an hour ago when I spoke to Commander Gerhard.” Beth said having thought along the same line. They could not come back until they had more answers but it was hard keeping them there in potentially harms way. It was her role and burden as Captain to make those decisions. “Lieutenant Darru is looking at the same information and trying to analyse.”

Isaac's fingers steepled in front of his lips for a moment as he sat in thought. "We'll need to prioritise getting them some extra supplies," he said quietly after a moment. "The mandatory quarantine period will stretch their current stock a little too thin if they've encountered survivors. Any word on whether the station itself has functional facilities?" Ever since the Realians had demonstrated what would be achieved with food replication, there was this niggling expectation that the entire sector was more technologically advanced than Atlantis. In this instance, it would certainly be a boon.

“Oh they’ve met survivors.” Beth stated and moved the images to show the Luminari from both medical and science point of view scans.

Iryna sat up better and frowned. “Seven feet.” She commented.

“At least.” Ben answered her question, his mind going straight to security as his eyes moved from the image to the data in their PaDDs. “This base is huge.”

"Is any of it of functional use?," Hughes repeated with gentle insistence. He and Avira had already discussed the next steps as part of the preparation, he knew the equipment she was likely to request and was also aware of just how limited it might be in the face of an entirely alien pathogen.

“From what Lieutenant Darru and Command Gerhard have reported it is very functional just has limited crew or personnel to run it.” Beth admitted pulling up the scans for Ben and Andre to see what had been observed so far from scans around the base. “I will be talking to the doctor after this as I need to discuss some medical reports.” She said glancing for a moment to Hughes. She would talk to him about it all once she got confirmation from Avira on a few things.

"Huge is an understatement, sir." Andre chuckled lightly, before returning to seriousness, "I'd like to be as careful as possible when it comes to any sort of biohazards - decontamination is going to be top priority because quarantine on the ship is limited as-is. We got the labs, Medical, and decon, and that's about it. If something happens here, we're gonna have our hands full just trying to expand quarantine on the ship."

“Which brings up why I brought you here actually Rhodes. I want to separate engineering into what Commander Jamesson is referring to operational.” Beth said quietly.

Ben raised an eyes and glanced to Rhodes and offered a proud smile. He had not just been asking Andre for his point of view but he was preparing the man to be his successor. “Congratulations.” He said simply.

Iryna did not need to say anything so she just nodded at the man. It was the best choice as Sloan did bot seem to be coming back.

That got a blink out of Andre, he was not expecting that. After a moment, he nodded. "Thank you. We'll keep the ship ready for whatever comes our way."

Beth had no doubt to that at all. They would need to catch up a little more after they solved the problems with the base but it was needed to split things. “And what about me Ma’am. What do you need from me?” Iryna asked. Beth looked at the MACO.

“For now resting,” Beth said indicating her dislocated shoulder from earlier in the week. “Isn’t that correct, Doctor?” Beth said turning a little to Hughes.

Smiling faintly, Hughes held up both hands in supplication. "I am but a lowly doctor who has cleared for light duties. It is up to the Commanding Officer to designate what those might be."

“You know what you need to do, Warrant Officer.” Iryna narrowed her eyes and looked at the pair of them but she did not say anything at all. She knew what she was asked to do prepared just encase the situation turned bad. It would not matter either way her light duties if she was needed to rescue the crew or not.

With a final glance up at the readout, Hughes remarked, "I'll coordinate with the good doctor. Permission to proceed?" The briefing had been short but, at least as far as his contribution went, Isaac felt it had run its course.

"Procedure as should the rest of you." Beth commented pointedly as she left the room. There was much she needed to do and she needed a communication array to do it.
